Overall, if they are really wanting to present themselves as a gastropub, they need to up there game on the food.Ītmosphere/vibe/decor: 12/20.Tom Simpson founded the National Billiard Academy (accredited by the PBIA since 2004). I was hard pressed to find the pork belly in the pie as promised. The shepherds pie was one of the strangest I have ever had - it wasn't horrible, but it was basically meat, gravy and melted cheese. The flavor was nice and it was cooked medium, but I could not believe how thin and measly the was the cut. My husband had the lamb and foie burger which was a little dry and medium, and my "sliver cut pork chop" was the thinnest slice of pork I have ever seen on the bone. The pate and pickled vegetables was nice - the pickle on the vegetables was very nice. I guess they are trying to compete as a gastropub, but in my opinion have a way to go. She was very attentive to our needs, and really there was nothing she could do about the noise. ![]() Our server was very nice and apologized for the noise, and said that she was hoping the group was rapping up in a half hour, which never happened. Needless to say, the sound echoed throughout the dining area and it was hard to have a conversation at your table - just a poor design. That really isn't the problem because it is mainly a bar with a dining area, but the private pool room is located right next to the dining area, and it is separated by a half wall and drapes. We did show up on a night when the private pool table area was occupied by a large group who were quite loud. young lady who showed us to an empty dining room. When you enter the establishment you enter the bar area and we were greeted by a nice. To start with, the stairs to enter the place are drab and dirty - kind of a funky musty smell. Overall however, really inventive and tasty food, definitely worth a return visit. I'm not looking for pretentiousness, just some nicer touches and finesse. If you're trying to build a following as a fine dining destination, which they deserve, then why not use table cloths, why not replace the silverware between courses and the table service was lax with servers repeatedly reaching over people to serve others rather than walking around. The only other comments have to do with the service. The wine pairings were expertly done and I was pleasantly surprised to see a Slovenian and Croatian selection on the menu and they and the others were wonderful. Virtually everything was delicious although I wasn't so fond of the sunchoke cream for the crab soufflé and the foie gras wasn't cleaned properly but it was still delicious. courses including oyster & cucumber chowder, Dungeness crab soufflé, surf & turf (scallop, chicken, egg), tuna & foie gras, and chocolate - seaweed sphere. Very thoughtful micro-environment themed tasting menus with wine pairings. Some friends who did know brought me here and I'm glad they did. I never would have expected to find fine dining in a pool hall but there it was.
